
World War II era style dog tags(1st type December 1940 โ November 1941). Rolled edge down, with debossed text and notch. Made of stainless steel (not monel).
The notch was originally used for positioning the tag in the debossing machine.
Serial numbers were issued as a result of the growing number of men with common names. Prefixes designated different services and origins.

WWII Army Dog Tags 1940-41 have 5 lines of debossed (indented) text on a 2" x 1.125" matte steel notched dog tag, rolled edge down & hole on right with the following format :
Superscript numbers (i.e. 17) denote character column.

- [Serial No.] [Blood Type]17
- [Next of Kin Name]
- [Next of Kin Street Address]
- [Next of Kin City & State]
Next of Kin info is for contacting in event of emergency or death. Tetanus Toxoid shot (T), and religious preference (C,H,or P) are not added until 10 November 1941.
